The Rule Of Law
Imagine playing a game of monopoly in which you own Park Place and Boardwalk and your sister owns New York Ave., Tennessee Ave., and St. James Place. Now imagine your sister’s boyfriend is in charge of enforcing the rules of the game. Things are going along well and you build hotels on the blue streets after mortgaging your railroads and some other properties to raise the cash. Your sister, likewise has hotels on her orange streets. You roll the dice and land on Tennessee Ave. You mortgage some more property to pay the rent. But, you’re in luck, on the next roll your sister lands on Broadway! Not so fast. Your sister’s boyfriend (a hulk-hogan look-alike) declares a moratorium on rent - she doesn’t have to pay.
How long would you continue to play the game? Read the rest of this entry »

Stop Us Before We Slurp Again
Mayor Michael Bloomberg has determined that New Yorkers are not bright enough to be allowed to decide how much soda they need. Never fear! Utah Edition – Saturday Links
The missus and I snuck away for a long weekend in Park City, Utah. The place is just beautiful. While I neither ski, nor golf, the surrounds are gorgeous in the summer, and there is no shortage of restaurants. (I do eat.)
Much to my wife's chagrin, I did get up early today to assemble these links. I hope you enjoy them and the pictures. Read the rest of this entry »

The Constitution (I’m Not Kidding) by Curtice Mang
If you’re a fan of P.J. O’Rourke, you’ll probably get a chuckle out of this book by Phoenix area high school basketball coach Curtice Mang. Curtice was nice enough to send me a copy of his book. When (then) Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, the walking advertisement for Botox and plastic surgery, was asked by a reporter about the Constitutionality of the (misnamed) Affordable Health Care Act, and she replied incredulously, “Are you serious?†- twice. Hence the title of Mr. Mang’s book. Read the rest of this entry »
