Madison’s First Federalist – Famous Number 10 « Today’s History Lesson

We don’t do a lot of link blogging at WWTFT, but occasionally something catches the eye like this post from one of my favorite blogs:  Today’s History Lesson.  Federalist No 10 is one of the most famous of the Federalist Papers.  As Joel  points out in his article, this was the first of Madison’s contributions to these famous arguments for the Constitution.  Federalist No. 10 addresses the issue of factions and whether a large republic is the best means of combating them.

Joel gives us some of the background behind Madison’s participation in the writing of the Federalist papers. He points out that Madison was able to turn the arguments of the anti-Federalists back on them by demonstrating that “[a] large republic, rather than restricting freedoms, was the most suitable protector of freedom.”
